I Want You So Bad

This Is What It's Like

Lyrics

I won’t let my inhibition cause you to stay in the dark
I know that I’m slowly wasting away, I’m keeping you from going down
I’m so scared of what will happen to you if I bring you closer
I wish it all could just go to the grave, and yet it’s trapped here lingering
I’m waiting patient, I wanna be back into your arms

I just want you so bad, so bad
But I know you’re too good for me
I just want so bad, so bad
But I know you’re too good for me, yeah

I know you said I just want you to go but I can’t take your word
You left me with a connection with you that I can’t just forget about
I slowly realize that I wasn’t as bad as I thought I was

I just want you so bad, so bad
But I know you’re too good for me
I just want so bad, so bad
And I know you’re too good for me, yeah
Even when I’m so low, so low
You give me the high that I need
I just want so bad, so bad
But I know you’re too good for me, yeah

Tell me, tell me maybe
Why you’re letting me go, why you’re letting me go
I’ve been trying lately
Why won’t you let me show cause I want you to know

Reflection & Info

A very straightforward song, both lyrically and musically. Interestingly, the entire melody is sung by both the male and female voices.

The chorus contains a play on words, where the term “bad” is used to describe the singer’s intense desire, simultaneously putting herself in a negative light, juxtaposed with how “good” she perceives her lover to be, to the point where she feels unworthy of this person.

This is a very different kind of love song because it walks such a fine line between humbleness and insecurity. You don’t really get songs these days that speak to that kind of feeling. From what I can gather, “I Want You So Bad” sends a message of genuine reverence and adoration, while honestly admitting to human imperfection. Fear, anxiety, self-esteem, devotion, passion, yearning. It’s all there, and all very raw.

I wonder what it’s like to listen to this song while being on the cusp of falling in love.

TL;DR & Related Media

• The song poetically describes insecurity and self-discovery.
• “Bad” may be used as a double meaning, if you think about it.
• The entire song is sung by both male and female vocalists.
